LOCATION Ft. Lauderdale, Florida
For the renovation of the Empress Suites, two existing patient rooms were combined to create a spacious post-partum suite for mother, baby and family. The room is designed to be reminiscent of a hotel suite with a “loft” feel. The new room has been created to serve as an ADA-accessible room in response to the consent decree with the hospital. The room is designed to allow the occupance of the mother and baby on the patient care side of the room with modern nursing accoutrements readily available, including a medical gas headwall concealed behind wood-paneled finishes. Adjacent to the mother’s bed is a double bedroom setting for the family to be comfortably housed during their stay. Located on the opposite side of the room is the living space, with couch, chairs, computer desk and a small bistro table. The 50” flat screen television is centered on the wall for easy viewing. The bathroom is designed to mimic the environment of a luxurious spa. Designed to meet all ADA standards, the room is spacious including a wheel-in shower accessorized with a rain showerhead, built-in cabinetry for toiletries with a vessel sink and a self-lighting mirror to enhance the mother’s appearance. The floor and walls are covered with porcelain tiles, along with other neutral finishes, adding to the natural tones completing the spa feel.
