Leon Medical Center - Flagler

Miami, Florida

LeonMedical Center, Flagler, provides sensitive, quality healthcare services tailored to the needs of the community. The four-story, 62,000-square foot building (with an additional 18,000 square feet of shelled space for future expansion) incorporates natural wood and stone, terrazzo, soothing colors, direct and indirect warm lighting, and complementary artwork.

Entering the Center through a protective translucent metal and glass canopy, visitors and patients are ushered into the Palm Court Plaza where they are greeted by soothing water features, natural light, and garden vistas.  Glass-backed elevators and waiting areas overlook beautifully landscaped Healing Gardens that dot the five-acre campus.  The gardens bring natural light and open green space into the lobby, waiting, and sub-waiting areas.  Palm frond-textured glass panels provide visual screening while filtering natural light into the building. Design elements support the goals of compassion and healing, producing a comfortable and reassuring space for patients.

Modules comprised of four 30x30-foot bays accommodate a variety of healthcare applications.  Each floor is anchored by a central pod balanced on either side by two additional pods for exam, treatment, diagnostic and support spaces.

The building’s exterior can resist Category 2 hurricanes and incorporates simple punched openings and large glazed areas in public spaces.  Clock towers, signature features of Leon Medical Centers, are brightly lit and serve as recognizable beacons for the community.
