Concourse "J", Miami International Airport

Miami, FL

MGE Architects, in collaboration with Zapata Studio, created this dramatic 350,000-square foot, seven-level concourse, setting a new standard in airport design.  A key element of MIA’s major expansion program, Concourse J meets the changing needs of domestic and international travelers in the twenty-first century.  Honored with a 2008 AIA Florida Merit Award of Excellence, the $150 million project incorporates innovative system design and advanced technical enhancements that promote efficiency and quality of service.

Concourse J has 15 domestic and international gates that accommodate wide body aircraft, a bus terminal, airline offices, maintenance areas, glass-walled lounges, international support functions, food concessions, newsstands, and retail kiosks.  Central air conditioning and electrical systems serve aircraft at each gate.  Sleek, centrally located moving walkways facilitate passenger traffic.

Echoing the majesty and romance of classic train stations, Concourse J’s vaulted aluminum roof, exposed metal slat suspended ceiling, light-filled walkways and public spaces elevate passenger spirit.  Cutting-edge, modern design and contemporary artwork incorporated throughout the Concourse further enhance the experience of twenty-first century travel.
